NYFW Day 4 Highlights:
Diane von Furstenberg: The energy and excitement around this show was in a word, electrifying. She delivered a powerful DVF collection, full of bold, graphic prints that seem to move across the garments in vibrant pinks, oranges and blues. And, of course, the wrap dress. But the end of the show was the showstopper. Celebrating 40 years of “the dress that started it all,” the wrap dress received extra special attention with not one, not two, but fifteen glistening gold wrap dresses dancing down the runway. This is just the beginning. Here’s to another 40 great years of the iconic wrap dress and the one and only DVF.
Notes: Bold prints. Pinks, blues, purple, oranges, and black & white prints. The iconic wrap dress and sweaters. Fur accents. Mixed print separates. Plush fur coats. Gold to celebrate.
DKNY: The show opened with young, urbanites talking about their love affair with this eclectic city. Then, instead of typical models, actual New Yorkers that dominate the concrete jungle came swaggering down the runway in their own unique style. Athletic and street influence with a touch of a swanky club attitude. A harmonious marriage of the runway and the street.
Notes: Very urban NYC. Bomber jackets. Shearling coats. Exploded houndstooth. Plaid and stripes. Platform shoes. Vinyl. Lace, sequins, and quilted texture. Bold. Taxi yellow, cobalt, oxblood, bordeaux, and pink. Boyish, straight silhouettes.
Thakoon: A harmonious medley of vibrant florals, textures, and solids all layered together in a sophisticated fashion. He surprised us with new, innovative silhouettes that every woman will covet. My favorite pieces are the chunky turtleneck, high/low caplets, both sweater knit and more structured versions. The perfect top layer for any fall ensemble.
Notes: Tight caplet top layer. Dramatic, high/low caplets. Lots of layers. Solids mixed with floral prints. Lace panels. Plush coats. Plaid, stripes, and polka dots. Flared skirts mixed with puffer coats. Fuchsia, cobalt, and electric orange with calmer navy, grey, and camel.
