#NYFW Fall 2014 Day 6

NYFW Day 6 Highlights:

Tory Burch: Inspiration from her parents’ collection of ancient armory, but not taken literally. Gold shimmers throughout the collection, not in an overwhelming, flashy way, but in a subtle, glamourous fashion. Foiled sweaters, gold belt buckles and gold chains resonate through the collection. Heat set studs in geometric patterns, repeat duo tone patterns, and asian floral patterns. Rich fabrics with a luxe sheen. A preppy vibe with an Asian influence.

Notes: Repeated patterns. Gold shimmer in prints, foiled knits, and gold rings. Fur accents. Lace up heels over knee high socks. Belts slung across the hip. Bordeaux, red, and navy. Asian floral prints.

Rodarte: I’ve come to relate Rodarte with eclectic, idiosyncratic design, and this Fall collection did not disappoint. They take you on a journey with so many twists and turns, the ending is never predictable. Modern silhouettes, like the off-the-shoulder wool coats, are the essence of the Rodarte brand. The show opened with dream-like sheer gowns with smocking detail. Then, it abruptly transitioned to structured wool coats, peplum tank tops layered over turtlenecks, and paper-bag waist pants. Then, an arts and craft moment with abstract floral crochet layers. Then came the glitter coats. So much glitter! Transitioning again to a mix of fabrics and textures beautifully draped in stunning evening gowns. Ending with conversation prints that are sure to spark lots of conversation.

Notes: Sheer, smocked dresses. Off-the-shoulder silhouettes. Organic crochet layers. Shots of color. High shine lips. Paper-bag waist pants and trumpet skirts. Sheer overlays. Fabric mixing. Gloves with colored inner fingers. Star Wars and glitter!

Timo Weiland: Urban, cool girl collection with simple, yet playful patterns and easy silhouettes. Checks, chevrons, plaids, spliced stripes and artsy polka dots meant to mix and match. Black and white palette with shades of blue and a shot of oxblood. Woven t-shirts with pleated miniskirts, varsity sweaters over a sheer dress, and moto jacket toppers. A girlie collection with strong tom-boy undertone.

Notes: Geo patterns: checks, chevrons, stripes, plaids and polka dots. Long fringe detail. Shearling trims. Miniskirts. Simple, no fuss looks.
