#NYFW Fall 2014 Day 7

NYFW Day 7 Highlights:

Reed Krakoff: Overt luxury was the theme of this Fall collection. Snakeskin, leather and shearling in modern silhouettes of sweatshirts and mid-calf skirts. There’s an athletic vibe throughout the collection with raglan sleeves, sarong-like wrap skirts and bomber jackets. A subtle touch of gold shimmer and circle and dot motif patterns sprinkled throughout. A great contrast between structured and fluid fabrics. A contemporary collection that compliments the female form.

Notes: Snakeskin. Casual sweatshirts paired with more formal skirts. Shearling. Circle ring texture and pattern. Luxe sweatshirts with snakeskin patterns and shearling. Leather. Wrap skirts. Strategic blocking. Subtle shimmer. Cobalt. Bomber jackets. Raglan sleeves. Sleeveless Crombie coats.

Sass and Bide: This collection embodies a cool, confident woman who likes to have fun. Multi-layered ensembles full of dimension without feeling excessive. My favorite: the long, flowing skirts, open in the front (and sometimes the back) layered over rompers or pants. Balanced proportion to revel in the female form. Bold graphics and signature embellished bead designs added another layer of dimension. Lots of leg for a Fall collection, but just add tights like Heidi did!

Notes: Bold graphics – diamond checks, stripes, and plaids. Black and white with gold and pops of leaf green. Small collection of pixelated plaid design with orange, yellow, blue and  green. Gold beaded design on delicate sheer fabric. Cool silhouettes: corset-esque tops, extreme peplum top, high waisted, full leg shorts, and lots of skirts: mini, maxi, and full high/low.

Proenza Schouler: With inspiration from ceramist Ron Nagle, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez created a collection about energy, humor, and having fun. With structured jacquard fabrics, the energy and movement came through in the organic, multi-layered patterns and textures. Mature silhouettes with rounded shoulders and extreme hourglass shapes contrasted well with the modern kaleidoscopic patterns. Collages of patterns, solids and contrasting textures added another dimension to this energetic collection. An extra shot of vitality and confidence will resonate with the woman wearing these looks.

Notes: Rounded shoulders, full sleeves and defined hourglass shape. Multi-layered patterns: crackle, wood-grain, and organic lines. Structured jacquards. Collages of jacquard patterns, solids, and contrasting fabrics. Greens, blues and reds pop on a black and white ground.
