NYFW Day 8 Highlights:
ThreeASFOUR: A frothy, all white collection made for creatures of a futuristic, cloud-like universe. Quilted, down-like parkas that feel and look like you’re in a cloud. Sculpted, layered pieces that resemble the form of separating glacier formations. Even the footwear took on these characteristics. The 3-D fractal backdrop enhanced the experience with the collection. An avant-garde compilation of sculptured designs that appear almost frozen in motion. Quite an experience.
Notes: All white. Quilted and sculpted pieces. Layers of organic, curved lines creating movement. Hoods. Cocoon-like shapes. The illusion of bring wrapped in a cloud.
Clover Canyon: Sometimes, after a long week of fashion shows, some of the collections, even though beautiful in their own right, begin to look repetitive, almost mundane when viewed back to back to back. And then there’s a shot of hallucinatory energy that shocks the system and forces notability: Clover Canyon. Vibrant, mirrored prints with Irish heritage woven throughout the collection. Florals, plaids, stripes, and many other dream-like patterns all strategically placed in a way that may only make sense to Nichols. Simple silhouettes of mid-calf skirts, trousers and blouses allowed the patterns to do all the talking. A fascinating collection that takes your imagination on a ride.
Notes: Vibrant hues. Classic patterns mingle with imaginative patterns. Irish heritage. Stained glass inspiration. Mid-calf skirts. A-line jackets. Dresses layered over trousers. Straight silhouettes with small belt at the waist to give subtle shape.
CG: A retro vibe with a futuristic sensibility, CG’s collection had the perfect presentation locale at the Standard hotel’s High Line Room, complete with wood paneling and modern furniture. Pronounced seams highlight intricate construction details. Pleated sections contrast against smooth fabrics. A subtle athletic influence with rib trim and zipper details. A few standouts include an extreme peplum top gathered in the front, liquid silver trousers, and what appeared to be a deconstructed brushed coat paired with a brushed skirt. A very detailed collection without being over designed. I’m excited to see more from this young designer.
Notes: Engineered, sculpted designs. Fur trims details. Turtlenecks. Rib trim and zipper details. Clean lines. Aluminum covered pumps. Strategic cut-outs. Panels and piping details around the waist and hips. Peplum tops.
